Meet the Superheroes: Figs

Scientifically known as Ficus carica, Figs are a treasure trove of nutrients, boasting calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, copper, potassium, selenium, and zinc. Enriched with flavonoids, phenolic acids, carotenoids, and tocopherols, and are a powerhouse of vitamin A, B complex vitamins like niacin, pyridoxine, folates, and pantothenic acid, vitamin E and K. Figs stand out for their antioxidant effects, neutralizing environmental radicals.

Figs’ benefits for the skin

Revitalize the skin. Whether you like to eat figs or apply them to your face in the form of a mask, this antioxidant-rich fruit can make your skin smooth and tender. The wealth of nutrients in anjeer like vitamin A, C and E and potent antioxidants is highly beneficial to nurture the skin and rejuvenate skin cells.

Hydrate the skin. Figs have been shown to enhance skin’s hydration by preventing water loss from skin’s uppermost layers. Copper, manganese, and phosphorus present in figs has great healing and moisturizing effect. Figs also contain omega-3 fatty acids that condition and moisturize the skin from within.

Prevent wrinkles. The nutrients and vitamins found in figs help balance sebum production, skin melanin, and prevent epidermal moisture loss. This increases moisture and keeps the skin free from wrinkles and premature aging. Figs also reduce the appearance of wrinkles by promoting collagen production.

Even skin tone. Apart from being rich in antioxidants, figs are also excellent suppliers of nutrients such as phosphorus, magnesium, vitamin B, calcium and potassium. These ingredients help in keeping the skin fresh and rejuvenated, and tone the skin. Figs contain a lot of vitamin C, which helps to reduce sun spots, scars and pigmentation, so that the skin is bright and even.

Reduce dark spots. Figs can also visibly improve skin color by addressing an enzyme in skin (tyrosinase) whose overproduction can lead to dark spots. Using a fig extract directly on the skin helps in tightening the pores and keeping the skin supple.

Exfoliate The Skin. Skin exfoliation is one of the prime factors for keeping our skin naturally fresh and healthy. Exfoliation helps in removing the dead skin cells, which otherwise make our face dry and flaky. Figs are helpful for just that! Figs are rich in vitamin A and beta-carotene which are excellent exfoliating enzymes that clear out wreckage from the surface of the skin.

Those benefits are intriguing, but there’s more: fig extract has also been shown to help reduce uncomfortably dry, tight skin, including compromised, redness-prone skin. Anjeer has also been used extensively in traditional medicine for treating various skin problems including eczema, vitiligo and psoriasis.

According to Ayurveda, Figs, or Anjeer, possess cooling power and essential nutrients that balance Vata and Pitta. Acknowledged for their role in cleansing the bowel, controlling blood pressure, and treating various skin conditions, Figs are revered in Ayurvedic traditions. Anjeer's diuretic, laxative, and expectorant properties make it a versatile ingredient, promoting overall well-being.

Vaidique integrates the Ayurvedic essence of Figs into its formulations, creating a harmonious blend of ancient wisdom and modern skincare.

Discover the Magic: Dates

Derived from the Phoenix dactylifera L. plant, Dates offer a symphony of sugars, vitamins, fibers, minerals, and phenolic compounds. Scientifically validated for their anti-aging, hydrating, and brightening properties, Dates are a powerhouse for skin health. Vaidique's skincare range harnesses the proven benefits of Date palm kernel extract, effectively reducing wrinkles, increasing skin hydration, improving elasticity, and combating acne. The antioxidant-rich nature of Dates aids in skin repair, providing a radiant and youthful complexion.

Dates’ benefits for the skin

Proven Anti-aging Benefits. Date palms and their extract has been scientifically proven to prevent and reduce visible signs of aging such as wrinkling and sagging. In a study, the topical application of date palm kernel extract “reduced the total surface of wrinkles by 27.6%” and “reduced the depth of wrinkles by 3.52%.”

Hydrate the skin. The presence of phenolic acids and vitamins like ascorbic acid and vitamin E is reported in the flesh and the pit of the date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) fruit. This helps in stimulating dermal fibroblasts, which increases collagen synthesis, resulting in an improvement of the hydration level which makes the skin plump making you look fresher and healthier.

Improve Skin Elasticity. Different types of minerals and vitamins, especially vitamin C, are present in date fruits. Vitamin C has a proven anti-aging activity because it induces the enzyme collagenase 1 and enhances collagen production.

Increase Skin Brightness. Skin color is determined by the presence of the pigment melanin. In the fruit of Phoenix dactylifera L., the presence of polyphenolic compounds and flavonoid glycosides of luteolin, quercetin, and apigenin is the reason behind the antioxidant activity of this fruit. A study has shown that applying date extract to your skin leads to a significant reduction in redness and hyperpigmentation which effectively increases skin brightness.

Reduce acne. The Phoenix dactylifera L. extract has very good antibacterial and antifungal activity. It contains high levels of tannins and phenolic compounds—such as ferulic acid, ρ-coumaric acid, ρ-hydroxybenzoic acid, certain oxidative enzymes, steroids, flavonoids, etc.—which are responsible for antibacterial activity. Also, dates are rich in many types of fatty acids and among those oleic and linoleic acid are the most important. These fatty acids inhibit the enzyme α-1 reductase, which causes a decreased production of sebum thereby reducing the incidence of acne.

Heal erythema. Erythema is redness of the skin caused by injury or any other inflammation-causing condition. Often presenting as a rash, erythema can be caused by environmental factors, infection, or overexposure to the sun (ie, sunburn). The extract of Phoenix dactylifera L. fruit has superoxide and hydroxyl radical scavenging activity. So, it has an antioxidant and antimutagenic property. This is the cause of its erythematic properties of the formulation.

Rich in Antioxidants. Date palm is rich in antioxidants that help the skin repair itself for a more youthful glow. It also protects us from unstable molecules known as free radicals which may cause harmful reactions and cause diseases. In fact, along with fig, date palm has one of the highest antioxidants among all the other fruits.

Ayurveda extols the virtues of Dates for their Vata-balancing properties, contributing to overall skin health. A natural remedy for urinary conditions, leucoderma, and menstrual irregularities, Dates, or Khajoor, hold a special place in Ayurveda's healing repertoire.

As Vaidique embraces the essence of Dates in its skincare formulations, the synergy between Ayurvedic principles and modern skincare science comes to life, promising holistic nourishment and rejuvenation.
